eLearning programme for CPC’s procurement membership

Introduction

CPC, the ‘Crescent Purchasing Consortium,’ is a non-profit organisation based in the United Kingdom that provides procurement services to educational institutions (and is part of the wider CPL Group). In 2018, the CPC approached Disrupt, a UK-based e-learning company, to create an e-learning programme aimed at providing procurement managers in the UK education system with a formal qualification. The programme’s goal was to teach end-users to make better procurement decisions based on best practices and procedures and government guidelines. The e-learning programme would be offered for free to procurement managers and paid for by CPC’s charitable surplus.

Challenges

Disrupt faced several challenges when creating the e-learning programme for CPC. The primary challenge was to design an engaging and interactive programme that would meet the needs of busy procurement managers. These professionals often have limited time to complete training and may find traditional classroom-based learning ineffective or impractical.

Additionally, Disrupt had to ensure that the e-learning programme met the requirements of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Disrupt had to ensure that the e-learning programme met the necessary standards to provide learners with a formal qualification recognised by CIPD.

Approach

To meet these challenges, Disrupt took a collaborative approach to designing the e-learning programme. The company worked closely with CPC to understand the needs of procurement managers and develop a programme that would be engaging and effective.

Disrupt used a range of instructional design techniques to make the e-learning programme engaging and interactive. These included scenarios, quizzes, and case studies that put learners in realistic procurement situations. The e-learning programme was also designed to be accessible on a range of devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

To ensure that the e-learning programme met CIPD standards, Disrupt worked  closely with a team of subject matter experts at CPC and CPL Group – using their educational experience to ensure that the programme met the necessary standards for a formal qualification.

Results

The e-learning programme created by Disrupt has been a great success. The programme has been widely adopted by procurement managers in the UK education system, with members from over 400 educational institutions completing the programme to date. The programme has also received positive feedback from learners, who have praised its engaging and interactive design.

The CIPD accreditation means that learners who complete the programme are eligible for a formal qualification recognised by CIPD, enhancing their professional credentials and improving their career prospects.

The e-learning programme created by Disrupt for CPC has been a great success, providing procurement managers in the UK education system with a high-quality, engaging, and effective training programme. By collaborating closely with CPC, CPL Group and the CIPD, Disrupt was able to create a programme that met the needs of learners and the requirements of a formal qualification.

The success of the e-learning programme has also had wider benefits, with procurement managers in the UK education system making better procurement decisions based on best practices and procedures and government guidelines. This, in turn, has led to cost savings and more efficient procurement processes, benefiting not just the education institutions but also the wider community.

The e-learning programme has demonstrated the power of collaboration and innovation in creating effective and engaging training programmes.
