University curriculum conversion case study
Transforming Curriculum conversion at the University of Derby
Introduction
The University of Derby is a leading institution in the UK, known for its commitment to innovation and providing high-quality education to its students. In an effort to further enhance the learning experience for their students, the university has recently implemented the Disrupt Solution, which is a digital curriculum convention and digitization initiative across various Schools.
Challenge
The challenge the University of Derby faced was to improve the quality of their eLearning content and make it more engaging for their students. Traditional methods of creating eLearning content were time-consuming and often required additional resources, leading to higher production costs. Additionally, the quality of the content was often not up to par, which resulted in lower engagement and retention rates among students.
Solution
The Disrupt Solution implemented by the University of Derby addressed these challenges by providing an innovative approach to creating eLearning content. The solution included a Direct to eLearning conversion Technology, known as the ‘Development LMS’, which enabled Academic Leads and Tutors to quickly convert their student resources such as Slides, Handouts, and Reading materials into SCORM content.
This technology quickly textures and layers the content with multimedia, visuals, and interactions, resulting in engaging and interactive eLearning content. The eLearning content is then deployed to their Blackboard VLE, which is easily accessible to students.
Results
The implementation of the Disrupt Solution has completely transformed the production time, capacity, capability, and costs of creating eLearning content. The unique technology provided by Disrupt has significantly reduced the time required to produce high-quality eLearning content, while also increasing the capacity to produce more content. The digitization of the curriculum has resulted in improved engagement and retention rates among students.
